The beauty of Folegandros is unparalleled, being distinct in it's rugged landscape! When I visited the island it reminded
me of a lunar landscape. I spent almost most of my afternoons sipping a glass of "frappe" watching the sun go down behind the island's steep mountain ridges, listening to some soft music. Your evenings
are better spent in the town of Folegandros, (about 1 km from "Karavostasi", the island's port). Everything starts at the town square which offers a varied choice of local foods, cafes and music bars. Do
take a walk through the town's castle, "Kastro", which is a Venetian castle, now converted into a hotel. Around 1:00 AM, the crowd moves on to the couple of bars on the outskirts of town for some indoor or
outdoor dancing. The landscape, music and the dark, star-studded August night make for an unforgettable inpression. Life is simple in folegandros; don't expect fancy things here. Most buildings
are original, built centuries ago from local stone. The town is small and if you stay for a few days, you'll get to meet almost everyone here. The beaches are some of the best in the Aegean. Katergo is
the most beautiful situated on the north side of the island. You can only get there by boat-taxi, from Karavostasi. Agios Nikolaos is another favorite beach with a beautiful cafe/restaurant sitting atop a
high bluff. There is also camping
here as well as a full nudist beach.
